[...] After lunch, I walked along the lake, which was filled with ring-billed gulls and more American coots. I easily forget that some gulls like lakes and so I’m always pleasantly surprised to see them floating on an inland lake. A few soared overhead, the sun shining behind their wings in a way that made them glow brilliant against the crisp blue sky. Gulls have always been favorites of mine, despite that incident back in ’90. [...]

I really miss seagulls since I live in central Texas. Fortunately a small flock of ring-bills comes around every winter. Thanks for visiting and for your comment.

I LOVE your article about seagulls---being, myself, a lover of these, I call the "THEY'RE EVERYTHING" birds!?!----- graceful and clumsy all rolled into one ;) Everytime I go to the beach it is the seagulls that get my attention and KEEP it..until I myself get hungry enough to want to leave and go home!! In my opinion a seagull is the personification of attitude (with a capital A!---- bordering on chutzpah!) I have always been fascinated by their..brashful gracefullness...or graceful brashness..?! I enjoyed, and agreed with, your description of the communication between the gulls....they DO argue! Seagulls have gotten a crappy deal by way of opinion,..I guess it is the negative nature of man to see the worst side of things. These are GREEN birds..very eco-friendly and I am glad that in this hardening and changing world the scene at the beaches stays unchanged for our children..made especially delightful by the glorious seagulls. I found your wonderful article while I was looking for some inspiring quotes about seagulls to attach with my beautiful pictures of them from my visit to the beach!

At last people who appreciate these 'white condors'. I live on the west coast of UK and for the 2nd year my kitchen roof is playing host to a pair of adults raising a family. Last year there were 2 chicks, this year we have 3. I hope its the same couple . They are fantastic and attentive parents, and there is an adult with the babies 24/7. It makes for very interesting viewing. I'd like to know a lot more about my visitors. Keep smiling!

I live in seagull country and I love the scoundrels. When our children were in high school, their church youth group went to the beach and read Jonathan Livingstone Seagull. Then, each member of the group wrote a verse to "add" to the story. They were each to "became Jonathan" for a brief moment. The 3 of them brought the results home and asked me to pick the verse each had written---believe it or not, I did it---their personalities had come through as clear as a beautiful Maine summer day.
