Find Everything All Right?

by James Brush on October 26th, 2006 | 2 Comments

When you go to the grocery store and they ask you, “Did you find everything all right?” what is the correct way to answer?

Do you say, “Yes. I was able to locate every item on my list.”?

Or do you say, “Yes. I had a pleasant shopping experience.”?

I’m never sure.

Isn’t that just grocery store language for “how are you?” I usually just grunt affirmative, figuring nobody really cares.

What if you didn’t find everything you wanted? Does anyone honestly think that coming to the checkout line and replying, “No, I didn’t find the canned rhubarb,” would actually result in any help in finding something? I somehow doubt it, and agree it is one of those sentences said to make you feel helped without actually helping you.
