An Avicentric Model

by James Brush on April 20th, 2010 | 2 Comments

I watch a
vulture

soar in perfect
stillness

across
open sky.

::

Or is it me
moving,

stuck to
earth,

rotating beneath
fixed birds?

::

Do I know the
math

to make this
true?

If I did,
would you believe?

    Much like with my own writing for NaPoWriMo, my commenting on your entries has fallen behind. This is an interesting piece, one that begs to be read several times to pull out more meaning each time. The very last stanza seems a little awkward to me, though, with the “would” being at the end of the first line rather than at the beginning of the second.
    Imagining those vultures up in the sky, I wonder what the world must look like to them from so high up, always smelling the air for their next meal…

    You said it. It is hard to keep up with all my reading when I’m writing at this pace. That said, I appreciate your taking the time to comment. Thanks for your input; I wrestled with that last stanza, and eventually just posted it. Might need a bit more work, later.
