the road to Houston
firewheels and sunflowers sway
along the shoulder
by James Brush
These micropoems aka “small stones” are short observational micro-poem-things mostly about nature. They are the result of paying close attention to the world around and writing from those moments.
the road to Houston
firewheels and sunflowers sway
along the shoulder
the chickadee
rattles like a snake
in her nest
when I look inside
to check the nestlings
butterflies weave
windblown
Indian blanket
wildflower fields
surround the jail
a chickadee clings
to the birdhouse entrance hole
nestling chorus
leaves whisper
a cumulus plume
turns the hour
just east of Houston
laughing gulls replace vultures
in the raucous sky
I step
toward a cluster
of white flowers
grasshoppers
ripple outwards
star violet
alone among primroses
and wind
cumulus sky
weighs down on swaying trees
bars on this window
a single crow
shadows over distant treetops
toward the highway
