gasoline fumes
open highways
through memory
endless skies
& stars
asphalt
& awareness
we’ll never be
this way again

This is for Read Write Poem’s NaPoWriMo prompt “What’s that smell?” provided by Julie Jordan Scott.
As usual my NaPoWriMo blogging for the weekend will consist of micro-poems over at a gnarled oak.
James Brush is a teacher and writer who lives in Austin, TX. He tries to get outside as much as possible.
James,
The smell of exhaust fumes always bring back memories of living in NYC.
This is superb!
Pamela
Thanks, Pamela. It’s amazing the places smell can take us.
Hi James,
Thanks for visiting. Petrol fumes always make me feel queasy but it’s great that they can take you on neverending journeys – cheap way to travel too!
Also loved your sugar-laden sonnet!
They can do that to me, but in small doses it’s quite transporting.
oh, this one has a sense of suspense and fear. both are tricky to create in short form, but you did it!
Thanks, carolee.
I love those first two lines! Nice use of the prompt. Thanks for visiting my site and commenting on the cleave poem. Let’s keep on writing. 🙂
Thanks for visiting, Yousei. Your cleave poem was wonderful.
man, how I loved the smell of gasoline when I was a kid.
nice write.
That’s always the first thing I think of. How much I always wanted to pump the gas myself.
