This week we remember Nigel “Bubba” George, my parents’ dog, who after a long and happy life went off on Friday to chase after the great tennis ball in the sky. My parents’ dogs have always outlived their expected lifespans and Nigel, who was a big guy, was no exception.
Nigel was a lover of opera. He enjoyed standing by the stereo speakers, waiting for the tenors to start singing and then he would howl sing along. He liked hiking, but had to be carried across creeks so his feet would stay dry. His favorite game was ball. And don’t forget Nigel’s cameo appearance in this blog a few months ago…
Dogs and cats really become part of the family and so it’s hard to see them go, but it’s good to remember that he was happy and always up to something to make people laugh. Take care, Bubba, and here’s hoping your feet stay dry.
James Brush is a teacher and writer who lives in Austin, TX. He tries to get outside as much as possible.
Very nice remembrance.
it always makes me sad because dogs and cats cant go to heaven, or so they say. i’m still holding out hope that all dogs do go to heaven, though.
I’m very, very sorry to hear about Nigel’s passing. I’m sorry I didn’t get this until we returned from Delaware late or early this morning. I’ve dedicated the Carnival to Nigel this week. My condolences to your parents too. Nigel is a really cutie!
Mickey, thanks for dedicating this week’s carnival to Nigel. Very nice.
Joey, I suspect we all have to get in line behind our dogs and cats before we get into Heaven. It wouldn’t really be Heaven without animals.
Jonathan, Thanks and nice to see you around these parts.
My deepest sympathies. Nigel sounds like a heck of a dog. That photo of him in the MilkBone box reminds me of the time Ellie got ‘trapped’ in a paper grocery sack trying to lick melted ice cream. She ran around crazy while I couldn’t stop laughing!
Thanks, Vince. What would life be without the humor that pets provide?
Very sorry to hear this. You may remember that you were kind enough to write me when we had to let our Bart go a couple of months ago. I am sure that Nigel and he will make great playmates.
My condolences to you and especially your parents.
Thanks, Mark, and I do remember your posts about Bart. I’m sure they’re all having a big doggy time somewhere.
thats f—–d up what happened to your dog but its even more messed up having the same name except the middle name
